Case Study
Plant Hire Website Design — Prolift Access Case Study
A bespoke website with e-commerce and a training course booking system for a powered access equipment supplier covering the South West.

Powered access equipment hire, sale and training
Prolift Access supplies all types of powered access equipment for hire, lease or sale across the South West. Powered access is the modern, efficient way to achieve working-at-height solutions safely, from three metres to sixty-five metres.
The managing director wanted a professional website design with a bespoke content management system, e-commerce functionality, and the ability to offer a range of training courses through a booking system. Three quite different jobs on one site.
That mix is typical of plant hire. The business sells equipment, hires equipment and trains people to use it, and each of those has a different buyer with a different urgency. The site had to serve all three without any of them getting in the way of the others.
What a plant hire website has to do
The first job is answering two questions fast: do you have the machine, and can I get it. A hire customer with a job starting on Monday is not browsing. They want the reach, the working height and a phone number, and if they cannot find those in fifteen seconds they will call the next company on the list.
That means every machine type needs its own page with real specifications — working height, platform capacity, machine weight, power source. It is more work than one catalogue page, but it is also how you rank for the terms people actually search, which are almost always specific: “scissor lift hire Somerset”, not “access equipment”.
The second job is training. IPAF and PASMA courses are searched by name and by date, and a course that can be booked online will fill faster than one that requires a phone call during office hours. Building the booking system into the site rather than bolting on a third-party tool keeps the customer on your domain from search to payment.
And all of it has to work in a yard on a phone. We build mobile-first and test on real devices, because a site manager checking availability from a job is not sitting at a desk.
Why bespoke rather than a template
An off-the-shelf hire template will give you a product grid and a contact form. What it will not give you is a training booking system, a way to handle both hire and sale pricing on the same machine, or a structure that follows how your business actually works.
We build bespoke websites so the site fits the business rather than the other way round. Prolift runs on WebGuru, our own content management system, which means adding a machine, a depot or a course date is a routine job for the team rather than a developer ticket.
If you run a plant hire, tool hire or access business with a website that does not reflect the operation, that is the work we do. The S.Morris construction case study and the Sparks Transport haulage case study are comparable projects in adjacent industries.
What We Built
Project development work carried out
Bespoke CMS
WebGuru integrated throughout, so machines, depots, prices and course dates can be updated in-house without a developer.
E-Commerce Functionality
Equipment sales handled on the site itself, with secure payment, rather than sending customers elsewhere to complete a purchase.
Training Course Booking
A booking system for IPAF and PASMA courses, so delegates can see dates and reserve places online instead of ringing during office hours.
