A new website for S.Morris Ltd — concrete, screed, blocks and aggregates suppliers across Somerset and Wiltshire — built around the questions a customer asks: which plant serves me, how much do I need, and how do I order.
About S.Morris Ltd
S.Morris specialises in construction materials, supplying aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, concrete blocks and asphalt. The business is renowned for its commitment to high standards of quality and service.
They operate two ready-mixed concrete plants in Somerset and one in Wiltshire, and their sister company Morris & Perry Ltd operates a further plant in North Somerset.
With local expertise in the trade and supply of construction materials, S.Morris offers superior value on building material requirements, supported by full product conformity and quality assurance certification — covered by BSI Kitemarks, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 (EMS), and CE Marking as relevant.
The brief
Create a modern design to improve the overall look and feel of the website and enhance the user experience. The client asked for a mobile-friendly site, having recognised that a significant proportion of their web traffic was arriving from mobile and tablet devices that the old site did not serve well.
They also needed a straightforward way for visitors to order a delivery of ready-mixed concrete online — something the previous site had no facility for at all.
The new site answers both. A plant finder tells a customer which plant serves their postcode, and a calculator works out how much concrete or screed they need, including five per cent for wastage, then hands the figure straight into a quote request with the date and the plant. It runs on our own content management system, every page from the old site kept its address, and the few that moved redirect, so the rankings came across with it.

Responsive Development
The layout of the design has been optimised to work with any screen size — the change the client specifically asked for, and the reason a large share of their traffic had previously bounced.
Concrete Calculator
Length, width and depth in, volume out, including five per cent for wastage, then straight into a quote request with the date and the plant.
Plant Finder
Pick a postcode area and the site says which plant serves it: Taunton, Yeovil or Amesbury.
Downloads Library
Product data, delivery, health and safety and certificate documents on one page, grouped so a site manager can find the one they need.
